This is where you will find all of the "Weather on This Date" post. These post take a historical look at notable past weather events that occurred on a given date.  For the winter season I do have some images and data as it pertains to snow, so that is one of the seasonal changes that you'll see within a post.  These post are actually created using the old blog site (yes, it's still being used!) and posted here via a RSS feed.

January 10, 1800  Savannah, GA, received a foot and a half of snow, and ten inches blanketed Charleston SC. October 22, 1965  The temperature soared to 104 degrees at San Diego, CA. Southern California was in the midst of a late October heat wave that year. January 12, 1888  A sharp cold front swept southward from the Dakotas to Texas in just 24 hours spawning a severe blizzard over the Great Plains. More than 200 pioneers perished in the storm. December 25, 1962 an ice storm struck northeast Georgia causing extreme damage to utility lines, trees and shrubs in a ten county area centered around Gainesville in Hall County. Thousands of homes were without power and telephone service for up to 30 hours. (NWS Atlanta) December 25, 1964 A short lived tornado touched down in Cordele (Crisp County). November 30, 1875  A severe early season cold wave set November records in the northeastern U.S. The temperature dipped to 5 above zero at New York City, 2 below at Boston MA, and 13 below at Eastport ME. January 9, 1875  The temperature at Cheyenne, WY, dipped to an all-time record cold reading of -38 degrees. January 11, 1918  A tremendous blizzard completely immobilized the Midwest, stopping mail service for two weeks. The vast storm then moved through the Great Lakes Region and the Ohio Valley. January 30, 1936  Birmingham, AL, established a single storm record and 24 hour record with 11 inches of snow. January 6, 1880  Seattle, WA, was in the midst of their worst snowstorm of record. Hundreds of barns were destroyed, and transportation was brought to a standstill, as the storm left the city buried under four feet of snow. January 15, 1852  Between January 15th and February 24th a total of 1378 railroad cars were drawn by horses across the frozen Susquehanna River to engines waiting at Havre De Grace, MD. January 8, 1953  A severe ice storm in the northeastern U.S. produced up to four inches of ice in Pennsylvania, and two to three inches in southeastern New York State. December 3, 1856  A severe blizzard began to rage across Iowa and Kansas. It produced as much as 16 inches of snow in Iowa. December 11, 1932  Very cold weather prevailed along the West Coast. San Francisco received 0.8 inch of snow, and at the airport the temperature dipped to 20 degrees. At Sacramento CA, the mercury dipped to 17 degrees to establish an all-time record low for that location. Morning lows were below freezing from the 9th to the 15th at Sacramento, and the high on the 11th was just 34 degrees. November 17, 1869  Southwest winds of hurricane force swept the Berkshire and Green Mountains of New England causing extensive forest and structural damage. (David Ludlum)  November 17, 1927  A tornado cut a seventeen mile path across Alexandria and southeastern Washington, DC, injuring 31 persons.
