March 11-15 1993 Storm of The Century

If you were around here back on this date in 1993, you were waking up to one of the greatest storms to ever hit the US, the Storm of The Century. I had never been in a storm like this, so it made for a surreal experience for me, and unfortunately, I took ZERO pictures of the storm itself. December 18, 1957  A tornado swept across Jackson County, Williamson County and Franklin County in southern Illinois killing eleven persons. December 14, 1924  The temperature at Helena, MT, plunged 79 degrees in 24 hours, and 88 degrees in 34 hours. The mercury plummeted from 63 above to 25 below zero. Winter of 2009-2010

One of the winters that is an analog for the Weatherbell forecast is the winter of 2009-2010. October 17, 1781  General Cornwallis attempted to escape encirclement by crossing York River, "but a violent storm arose" dispersing his boats causing him to ask for an armistice. October 30, 1925  Nashville, TN, was blanketed with an inch of snow, their earliest measurable snow of record. December 20, 1836  A famous cold wave occurred in central Illinois. A cold front with 70 mph winds swept through at Noon dropping the temperature from 40 degrees to near zero in a matter of minutes. January 1, 1864  Snow, gales and severe cold hit the Midwest. It was the most bitter cold New Year's day of record with afternoon highs of 16 below zero at Chicago IL and 25 below at Minneapolis MN. October 21, 1934  A severe windstorm lashed the northern Pacific coast. In Washington State, the storm claimed the lives of 22 persons, and caused 1.7 million dollars damage, mostly to timber. Winds, gusting to 87 mph at North Head WA, produced waves twenty feet high. December 25, 1962 an ice storm struck northeast Georgia causing extreme damage to utility lines, trees and shrubs in a ten county area centered around Gainesville in Hall County.
