Here's a picture of the top of a lenticular cloud over the Clingmans Dome area in the Smokies yesterday. It was 45 degrees in the parking lot with 20 mph winds. At the same time, it was 60 in Gatlinburg.

It's been a cold November so far.

Here's a look at the temperature anomalies through yesterday. Notice that the low temp anomalies are warmer than the high temp anomalies, mainly due to increased water vapor in the atmosphere.

From Bastardi's post:

Quote

I look at this stuff when we are forecasting colder than the market is thinking to see how we are doing, The problem you have this year is with the creeping cold that started into the west and plains in October and now November, you have the set up, to by and large run the table. Alabama does not score on every possession, but when the game is over, they have routed the opponent. This has the chance to be a special winter where the advance of winter is 2 steps forward, one step back, until we land ourselves in a widespread cold winter when the jet is strongest. That is on the table as the Modoki enso event means enough southern branch to cut the southwest temps, and the warm pool over the NE Pacific to help with high latitude blocking, and the cool eastern Indian ocean to help MJO considerations. It's not like the world is 2C above average, it's .2C and there is cold, and plenty of it to be found. If you are where its locking and rocking due to blocking, you have a chance at having an even colder winter than we have.

That is why it's so exciting that is on the table. Whether it disappears like a turkey at Thanksgiving or as is the habit in our household, overkill ( we have 4 turkeys this year for the record-breaking 36 people anticipated) remains to be seen and only God knows.

But guess what, for people that love this stuff and the challenge, it is going to be fun trying to keep up with it.

Have a Happy and blessed Thanksgiving day and thank you for all you mean to me.

GEFS says that there may be some possibility for snow chances the first week of December for Blairsville... 😉 Meteorological Winter starts December 1, how fitting. 🙂

Cold and wet is the word for Black Friday. If you are going out shopping, be prepared to get wet and you'll also need a coat. You know... winter in Georgia. 🙂
