Good morning!!

We're finally back home! We've been gone for about 4 weeks this summer and have driven around 6000 miles total. 🙂

There is some rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow, and a few people in the NW corner of the state are in a WPC "Slight Risk" area for excessive rainfall.

Quote

Another area of concern is across portions of the TN Valley where heavy
rainfall is forecast to occur on Day 1 which may reduce FFG values
even more. Have a Slight Risk across this area, extending northeast.

Here's the thoughts about today from the Atlanta NWS office

Quote

Weather pattern shift expected through the short term as front and
associated enhanced moisture makes forward progress into Georgia
Tuesday.

Amplified trough over the eastern U.S. will slowly usher a surface
front to the Southeast by Tuesday, with dry northwest flow filtering
in behind it. Today, ahead of the front, expect diurnal convection
to have slightly better coverage than yesterday, and concentrated
over the northern half of the state
. For now, good chance pops
continue for this afternoon for the northern tier of zones, with
likely pops by this evening. Hi-res models show activity continuing
overnight, with a possible diminishing trend by sunrise. With the
daytime heating Tuesday, convection is expected to ramp back up
,
associated with the frontal boundary as it moves into the state mid-
morning. Have continued with likely to categorical pops as the front
meanders through the state, and begin tapering off pops from the
northwest by late Tuesday afternoon.

At this time, SPC does have north Georgia outlooked in a Marginal
Risk for severe storms for the activity late tonight and early
Tuesday
, then just general thunder as the front moves through the
state later Tuesday. Main concerns at this point are damaging winds,
frequent lightning and heavy downpours
.

Expect unseasonal temperatures this week as the front impacts the
area. Highs today will top out in the 80's to mid 90's, with lows
Tuesday morning in the low 70's. Cloud cover and precip activity will
keep highs on Tuesday relatively low, and although some guidance was
keeping highs in the upper 70's for the metro Atlanta area, have gone
instead with a blend of models with highs closer to 80-81. The big
treat is the low temperatures in the 60's Wednesday morning - a trend
which continues into the long term.

Starting tomorrow, temperatures will feel more like spring than summer.

So after Tuesday, the rest of the week will be drier and cooler and generally a very pleasant week for the middle of summer.

I hope everyone has a great start to the week!

We're flying out of ATL super early tomorrow morning ... thoughts on the storms' impact in the 5 - 7am hours?

Headed to NH and provided we can find a decent day (rainy and 44 right now at the summit), we are hiking Mt Washington...

Thank you!

Awesome! Hope for good weather! There will be some thunderstorms around in the morning, but you should be able to get around them without issues. Get some good pictures for us!
