Thursday, November 28 - Thanksgiving

Good Thanksgiving morning!

Today will be a beautiful Thanksgiving day so no weather worries at all for us, but folks in the central US are not sharing the same nice weather. Freezing rain, sleet, and snow and making for a rough Thanksgiving for many.

Later this weekend, things will begin to change for us.

Quote

A pattern change will be underway as the extended period begins,
with the axis of the upper-level ridge and associated surface high
pressure moving east of the forecast area and the next system
approaching from the west. As the center of the high moves towards
the mid-Atlantic coast, southeasterly low-level winds will allow for
a gradual increase in moisture across the area on Saturday. An
occluded low pressure system then moves east-southeast from the
Northern Plains towards the Ohio Valley on Saturday and Sunday.
Latest GFS and ECMWF guidance both indicate that precipitation ahead
of a strong cold front associated with this low will enter north
Georgia late Saturday and advance southeastward through the forecast
area during the overnight hours and through the day Sunday.

Likely to categorical PoPs are expected across the area on Sunday as
the cold front pushes southeastward through north and central
Georgia.
Although the instability associated with this system is
expected to be marginal, broad forcing ahead of the front could
nonetheless be sufficient to support some isolated thunderstorm
activity
. As a result, a slight chance of thunder has been included
in the areas with highest rain chances. Strong low-level wind shear
and 850mb level winds could also contribute to gusty winds with the
showers as the front moves through the area
. Rainfall amounts
through the duration of this event are expected to exceed 1 inch
across far north Georgia, with diminishing amounts progressively
further south.

It is possible to see some wraparound precipitation on the backside
of this system in the southern Appalachians on Sunday night into
Monday morning. While only slight chance to low-end chance PoPs
remain in place across far northeast Georgia, rapidly cooling air
behind the cold front will be enough for a light rain/snow mix
across the far northeastern portion of the forecast area at that
time. Will continue to monitor for any potential changes for wintry
precipitation across far north Georgia.
Low temperatures will cool
to near climatological averages behind the cold front by Monday
morning, with 30s and low 40s anticipated across the area. Then,
with cool and breezy northwesterly winds continuing to filter into
the area through the day, highs will be mainly 8-12 degrees below
average on Monday, ranging from the upper 40s to mid 50s. Cool and
seasonal conditions are then expected to remain through the middle
of the week, with temperatures gradually warming back to near
average by Wednesday.

I know everyone is busy, so I won't bore you with weather today. I hope everyone has an awesome Thanksgiving Day! Give thanks for everything!
