Good morning!

How'd that first day of summer go for you? 🙂

Summer continues but today will bring an increase in the showers and thunderstorms as a shortwave moves through the flow (red arrow). Moisture will also be on the increase in advance of another upper level trough, setting the stage for rain for the upcoming week.

Compared to yesterday afternoon, expecting increased coverage in showers and thunderstorms this Father's Day as an upper level shortwave moving through the flow is expected to track across portions of northern Georgia. Chances for precip will begin to pick up this afternoon and evening before diminishing overnight. Overall, the better dynamics associated with this system are expected to be further north of the area leaving fairly marginal instability and shear across the local forecast area. As such, a few strong to isolated severe storms will be possible this afternoon and evening, with the main hazards being gusty winds, frequent lightning, periods of heavy rain. Although, overall chances for showers and
thunderstorm will diminish overnight, a stray shower or thunderstorm will still be possible across northern Georgia as the shortwave continues to lift and push east of the area.

For Monday, southwest flow aloft is expected to continue to advect additional moisture into the area. In addition, another perturbation moving through the flow will help to enhance chances for showers and thunderstorms on Monday with the highest chances for showers and thunderstorms across northern Georgia.

Again, more typical summertime weather in store for us.

The tropics are very quiet right now and the air is very dry (and dusty coming off of Africa) in the main development region, so nothing to talk about along those lines. The reds and oranges indicate dry/dusty air.

You can see the dust better in this loop

Hopefully we'll only have 3 months of this weather, unlike last year when we had a double summer. I certainly don't want a repeat of that.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday!
