Winter Weather Obs for Dec 8-11

Recommended Posts

Use this post to add any winter weather observations (snow/sleet/freezing rain) that you are seeing in your area. Please note the location (try to be fairly specific) and time of the occurrence.  We will be sharing this with the NWS, so your reports DO matter.

You can add images here, or add them to this gallery that will also be shared.

Quick update. Drove from Dahlonega, on my way to sky valley to check out the weather. It’s about 37 when I left dahlonega around 2. All rain until a few miles south of Tallulah gorge when it’s quickly transitioned to snow, where the Jeep read 32 degrees. It snowed through downtown Clayton, and then transitioned back to a mix by Raburn Gap, where it was 36. I just stopped, and will update this again when I reach Sky Valley.

Sky Valley and Scalley Mtn have some pretty good accumulation already. It’s sitting at 31 up there. I turned around when it started getting sketchy.

At 6:30pm, a steady rain is now falling in Sky Valley. It is melting a lot of what had already fallen. It is currently 33.3 degrees, my elevation is 3,400’

Anything changing up that way yet? Snow line crashing over in S.C. but no change here yet despite the radar saying snow still.

Starting to have some snow and sleet mix in. We are back down to 32.

Okay shouldn’t be too terribly long then for here. Temp just started to tick back down from 33 on the dot which is as high as it got.

Took a trip to see the snow today. Left Thomson, GA around 6:30am and headed for Waynesville, NC. We hit sleet around Elberton, GA and the roads deteriorated quickly until we made it to the Toccoa bypass the the plows were out and everything was good until we were about 5 miles from Waynesville. The scenery is beautiful up here and roads aren’t too terrible.

I note with surprise that the WSW has actually been extended for my little corner of Georgia, until noon tomorrow. I was under the impression that the threat was fading...

You may have a few snow showers, showers, and flurries, but it won't amount to much.

I also snuck up to North Carolina. There was quite a bit of snow up there. It looked like there was close to a foot in places. Asheville was a mess till the plows worked things out. Saw temps as low as 28 passing through the Balsam around 9am.

just saw this thread.  great pics.  i went through Waynesville, to Asheville, and then to Hendersonville and back home.  there was a lot of snow in Hendersonville.

So do we know how much Suches got?  I could see snow on the mountains up there for several days, and then this weekend there was still snow on the side of the road at blood mountain.

I'll see if i can find a pic from Hendersonville.  Its plowed snow in a parking lot, but, still!

and btw, i'm galp03 on the cocorahs list above.

Nice picture! That's what I need! 🙂 I want to say that they had about 6" or so.
