Winter Weather Potential - January 20-27

Recommended Posts

I would like to order even a small snow portion of one of these maps, please and thank you. Good thing I'm getting some extra refills of my pup's medications just in case my vet's office needs to close for bad weather.

That is a concern to plan for. You're starting to see hints of what may come, so I would certainly try to get one step up on it. Myself, I'm going to get all my propane tanks filled up (have a propane generator) just in case. 😉

Yuppers.... Thankfully it's only one set, and they are portable if absolutely necessary. More than likely they are getting a hard plastic heating pad installed in their den box this week.

On the flip side, need to get some propane for the grill. No generator, but we at least have a gas fireplace hooked up to a 1K propane tank.

As an aside, being a biologist/educator, it's cool to see the number teachers on this forum!

Welcome! Just told my wife that I love seeing Gwinnett teachers here, that's like 4-5 today! Very awesome! What school?

South Gwinnett High in Snellville! My colleagues think I'm a weather guru but I just have always followed you lol. This is my first year posting/commenting though.

Speaking of teaching, i am glad our Men's retreat is this weekend at General Coffee State Park, and not next.  I am teaching a class on 'Back to the Altar" .

Now I know i need to mind my p's and q's.....  with all these 'eyes' looking on     🤣

The potential longevity of this pattern is simply mind boggling... This shot is from the Euro weeklies from day 28-35 and it just shows no signs of letting up.B128D876-BCC9-4FED-ADCA-BE623DCB4CCB.png.571c2d31f454f3389df47e73006a05da.png

There are never guarantees at snow, but as far as a cold pattern goes, it’s time to be excited.

Bastardi about the 18Z GFS run.

Quote

With very cold air on the playing field and big time reinforcements coming, the model has some big time northeast snows and what would be a legendary southern snow and ice storm. It wasn't on the 12Z and may disappear, but not impossible given the energy coming inland when cold is becoming established. Early the lows were cutting to the northeast into Canada.

As Forum Pastor I adorn my cloak----- and cite my Prayer for all our Teachers

Oh Lord, let it snow.
Let it drift and let it blow.
In the morning, no real fuss,
Just enough to stop the bus.
Enough to make the county say:
"There will be no school today."
Let the radio report:  "Snow's deep!"
And I'll roll over for more sleep.
Then later on, say maybe ten,
I'll turn the radio on again.
Just in time to hear them say:
"It's strange, the snow has gone away."
And then I'll know, You made it stop.
So I can go to the mall and shop.
Please Lord, just hear my teacher's plea,
And make it snow for the kids and me.

NWS Atlanta

Quote

Still looking like most significant system will be the latter half of
the weekend as strong low pressure tracks across the area and cold
air rushes in behind. Models coming into better agreement
regarding how much moisture will be left in wrap around and
current runs support a transition to at least a mix if not
straight light snow showers for the far northern tier Sunday.
