End of January Winter Weather Possibilities

Recommended Posts

GSP looks like they are going to wait until afternoon forecast update with Peachtree City, but looks like Habersham may be getting added to the products.

The mountain Warning/Advisory hazards look
fairly well placed, and Rabun and possibly Habersham Counties may be
added to the Advisory in northeast Georgia.

Every time I think Athens is gonna get totally missed, you throw me a bone lol my heart can't take the suspense

Athens really has to get lucky to see a good solid band. I don't think we're that lucky based on the past. Meanwhile, NWS took away our snow... It was fun while it lasted.

Surely if Havana, Cuba can get hit by a tornado the south can beat the odds and see a 2-3 inch snowfall!!

Yea the forecast high for Athens and royston is around 47 degrees. Ther is no way it can snow with those temps.

That may be true but those high temps are in the morning the temp drops all day.

That high is before the front gets there.  The temp will fall sharply when the front arrives

Cashing in... Start the thread!!! ❄️😂

On a serious note Feb has always been my favorite month "weather wise". When else can you get severe weather, snow, 70s, and 20s all in the same week?

It never drops fast enough and by the time it does get cold enough the moisture is long gone. I've spent countless times waiting only to see the snow make it to Winder and dissipate.

That may be the case again, but this arctic front is not your typical cold front

Trust me, it dissipates before Winder...

I will be extremely disappointed in this winter if the only gulf low we manage to get is the one from the 1st week of December. I got a little bit of snow from it which was great, but a good 75% of the storm was rain. Still 4-6 inches below yearly average here. I thought for sure the active southern jet would bode well for gulf systems, but it definitely has not. Everything that pops up in the long range is always post frontal, and that always looks better in the long range than it actually ends up being.

Oh, I'm aware Winder has got it bad as well but in the most extreme cases, that's how close it can be... like Dec 8th for example.

But hey, a lot of NW GA are going to reach their yearly averages with this snow. So I’ll hold out hope for just one big gulf storm in late February or March, cause this post frontal stuff is getting old.

It probably doesn't help that the timing is during the day. I know I used to joke about daytime snow in Georgia is like seeing a unicorn and Bigfoot together.

I "think" that Gwinnett is going to announce they are closed tomorrow. I "think". They are one of the last holdouts in the advisory area. Of course.

Sounds right. Kids are getting a little anxious out here.
