Good morning!

Man... it just seems like this month is flying by to me. Here we are coming up on the middle of fall and the 2nd busiest month for hurricanes, so that means there ought to be lots of weather to talk about, but right now we're in a lull.

This mornings map (300 mb winds and isobars/dewpoints/water vapor/radar) shows a mostly zonal flow across the northern tier of the US. You can see the weak cold front trailing down though TN/AR/TX. You can also see how the southeast is still in the moisture while the northern and western parts of the US are dry.

Today through Saturday
Showers are expected to continue across the forecast area this morning as the remnants of Beta moving through the Tennessee River Valley, pushing a weak cold front through the area today and this evening. CAM's showing quick improvement by late morning as showers push to the east along frontal zone but holding onto low cloud cover through the afternoon and early evening capping highs mostly in the 70's with 80's in the southeastern forecast area. Cloud cover will probably break overnight, and if that does play out, we'll have to watch out for radiational cooling effects forming some areas of thick fog by Saturday morning.

Saturday Night through Thursday
The long term begins with an upper ridge across the area giving us dry weather through Saturday night. A southern stream short wave crossing into the lower MS Valley on Sunday will bring an increase in moisture and shower and thunderstorm chances back across the area on Sunday and continuing into Monday. Meanwhile a strong trough will deepen into the central states... swinging eastward Monday and Tuesday. This should push a cold front through north and central GA on Tuesday. At this point models diverge

  • The GFS keeps a more progressive and drier solution for Wednesday and Thursday with the upper trough continuing to push off the Atlantic coast.
  • The ECMWF wants to develop a deep cut off low in the lower MS Valley... keeping it there until Thursday. This would keep showers over the area through the end of the period.

For now have compromised with continuing pops into Tuesday night and a dry solution for Wednesday and Thursday.

Here's a look at the upcoming temperatures for selected areas around north Georgia. These are the official NWS forecast temps. Notice the end of the week.

The rain is about over but there could be a light shower/drizzle passing through, these are the rainfall expectations through 8 pm this evening.

So not much going on to get excited about. After having 5-7 storms in the Atlantic at once, we now have zero.

Yesterday's CoCoRaHS rainfall measurements look like this. I feel very alone up here.... 🙂
