Good morning!

It's a little breezy out there this morning! I had a 29 mph wind gust around 5:01 am this morning. It seems to have died down some but it is still blowing. There will be some clouds and light showers passing through this morning as our cold front pushes south.  On the morning map (300 mb isobars/850 mb winds/700 mb winds/water vapor) you can see the trough swinging through this morning and along with it a line of very light showers.

The front will continue to push south through the and bring much drier and cooler air to our area.

As the short term period begins, a cold front is pushing into northwest Georgia and is expected to move south and east through the forecast area during the remainder of the morning and into the afternoon. Scattered very light rain showers are ongoing behind the front. However, these showers will diminish as they move into north Georgia, and only a slight chance of showers have been maintained across the far northern tier. With lingering wedging in place across northeast Georgia, areas of dense fog have developed over that area. As the front clears northeast Georgia this morning, the fog should begin to clear and visibilities should begin to steadily improve.

A cooler and drier airmass will set up behind the front. High temperatures this afternoon will be significantly cooler than the last couple of afternoons, with highs in the 60's across much of north Georgia and in the 70's across much of central Georgia. The only exception is that warmer than average temperatures are still expected in east-central Georgia, where the front may not reach until later in the day. Breezy northwest winds are also anticipated behind the front and should linger throughout much of the daytime today.

Saturday morning will be the coolest morning of the season to this point, with low temperatures expected to run between 4-8 degrees below climatological normal's. Temperatures Saturday morning will be in the 40s across most of the forecast area, and in the mid to upper 30s in the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia. Areas of patchy frost will be possible early Saturday morning in far northeast Georgia, as a result. With high pressure continuing to build in at the surface and aloft, the remainder of the day Saturday will remain quiet underneath clear skies.

This is actually part of the aviation update that I've cleaned up for our use.

A cold front is currently pushing into northwest Georgia and will move southeastward through the forecast area during the morning hours. Scattered showers ares possible behind the front, but is expected to diminish across north Georgia before reaching any airport sites. Broken clouds will spread over the ATL metro sites and Athens behind the front, before scattering out by 9-10 am. The wedge remains in place in northeast Georgia, including AHN, leading to visibility restrictions due to fog, which should improve as the front clears the area by 5 am. Winds should increase behind the front, with NW winds of 7-10 kts by 5 am steadily increasing to 12-14 kts with gusts of 20-24 kts during the afternoon.

Here's an animation of the wind gust. By early tomorrow morning those winds and gust will drop to almost nothing.
