Administrators Popular Post NorthGeorgiaWX Posted October 25, 2023 Administrators Popular Post Posted October 25, 2023 Good morning! We are quickly approaching the end of the month, we will be warming up for the next 5-7 days or so, before our temperatures take a tumble. Here's the morning map, showing 500 mb isobars and wind, as well as temperatures. There are several features to note. Starting from the top left, there is a very deep upper level low crashing the coast of Washington, and that low will pinwheel across the upper US, drawing in colder air behind it. Notice the temperatures just across the border in Canada, and also across Montana. Notice the 11 degree temperature in Cut Bank. Winter has begun up north, ands it won't be long before we start to feel some of that colder air in Georgia. South of that low, another trough dips into Mexico, and out ahead of the trough, some showers and thunderstorms are breaking out in advance of a cold front. Off in the Atlantic, we have a tropical system that is no threat to the US, and across the southeast, a big ridge is keeping us mostly clear and dry. Speaking of Montana, this is what it's going to be like for the next several days. Contrast this to our weather here in Georgia. This is the official NWS snow forecast for the next 48 hours. Are you ready to move to Montana? 🙂 These next two images are the forecast highs for Thursday and Friday. If you think those are cold, these are the forecast lows. Already seeing lows below zero on October 27. To give you an idea how anomalous these temperatures are, the next two images are the high temp anomalies, and the follow two are the low temp anomalies. Low Temperature Anomalies One of the reasons for showing what's going on in Montana, is that more often than not, our cold air generally comes from that direction, and that will be the case when a cold front comes sweeping through on the last day of the month. Both the GFS and Euro bring a strong cold front into Georgia starting early in the evening on Halloween. Those pink temperature anomalies are about -35 degrees below normal. By Thursday the 2nd, we're solidly in the cold air. Those anomalies equate to lows in the 20's. We may be looking at highs in 40's for a day or two, so it's certainly going to be cold. One thing will be watching, is that 540 mb isobar, as that's a good indicator of most favorable cold air for snow. The models keep bringing that line further and further south, and it won't be long before we see it dip to our latitude. This is the GFS on November 7th, and not something to focus on, I was just using the image as an example. Don't hold your breath for any rainfall, this is the official forecast for the next 7 days. Hurricane Otis made landfall this morning as a CAT 5 hurricane, with Acapulco taking a direct hit. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Jeff9702, EM_, RickyD and 9 others 12 Quote

I have two pairs of images, each pair shows the high and low temperature anomalies. The first pair is for today, and the 2nd pair on November 1.
