Administrators NorthGeorgiaWX Posted July 28 Administrators Posted July 28 Good morning! Since July is almost over, I thought I'd take a look at how we faired with our precipitation and temperatures. Our rainy period start on the 18th of July, and many people saw some very high rain totals during that period. This is the rainfall analysis for the last 7 days. This would leave out the 18th and 19th rainfall totals, so if those days were included this would look a little different. This shows the precipitation anomalies for the same period. Notice that some areas are normal or even below normal, so they've had zero relief from the drought. It looks like feast or famine. Here's a look at the CoCoRaHS totals since July 18th. Notice the extremely high totals in some locations, which could be an indication of training or stationary storms, as well as just getting lucky and having more storms than others. Since we've had abundant cloud cover and a lot of rain, the temperatures have remained below normal for the hottest time of the year, so hopefully we've passed the brutal temperatures. OF course, it can still get very hot well into October, so we have plenty of time for Mother Nature to call BS. 🙂 These are the temp anomalies for the last 7 days. The last 14 days... This shows that the month to date is right at normal. The rainfall is not over just yet. We are sandwiched in between to upper level lows, one that's pulling away our to sea, and another one that's moving northeast across the Central Plains, and that will more moisture to be pulled north from the Gulf and back into our area today. Here's a look at the water vapor loop. Recording #132.mp4 Because of the abundant atmospheric moisture content, periods of heavy rain can be expected later today. The Weather Prediction Center has parts of north Georgia in a "Slight Risk" outline for Excessive Rainfall, both today and tomorrow. Rainfall rates of several inches per hour will be possible in some of the storms. This is the result, and is the Weather Prediction Center's forecast though 2 AM Tuesday. These are the three ensembles through the same time period. Remember, because they are an ensemble mean, the values are blended and smoothed out. So, for today, we can expect this forecast. As we head toward the end of the week, the precipitation chances drop, and temperatures and heat index rise. 🙂 Hey... you wanted some sunshine! 🙂 Bagsmom, Jeff9702, TheJohnnyDee and 1 other 4 Quote

Administrators NorthGeorgiaWX Posted July 29 Author Administrators Posted July 29 Some folks had a lot of rain yesterday, but not me NWS: "Here are the rainfall totals from 2 AM Sunday through early this morning. The orange and red colors indicate 2-4 inches. Atlanta (Hartsfield-Jackson, to be exact) hit a daily rainfall record of 3.47 inches! Scattered to numerous showers and storms are expected again today, so flash flooding will be possible, especially in areas where the ground is already nearly saturated.
