Day 3-8 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0350 PM CDT Sun Jun 09 2024

Valid 111200Z - 171200Z

Upper ridging will build over the western and central U.S. through
the week, as an upper-level cut-off low drifts over the Desert
Southwest by Days 5-7 (Thursday-Saturday). Thereafter, upper-ridging
will spread into the eastern CONUS as a broader mid-level trough
overspreads the northern Rockies by the end of the period. The
overall synoptic pattern will promote appreciable rainfall
accumulations and/or higher RH for much of the CONUS east of the
Rockies. However, prolonged dry and occasionally breezy conditions
should persist across the Desert Southwest through the forecast
period. As fuels continue to trend drier with time, the risk for at
least Elevated-equivalent fire weather conditions should also
increase over portions of the Colorado River Basin. This should
especially be the case by next weekend as the passage of the
mid-level cut-off low provides upper-level support for dry and windy
conditions over the Southwest. Elsewhere, occasional rounds of dry
and windy conditions are expected over the northern Rockies/High
Plains through the forecast period. Given the potential for minimal
rainfall accumulations over Montana and points westward, finer fuels
could dry out enough to encourage Elevated fire weather conditions
by sometime later this week.

While multiple areas will need to be monitored for relatively more
localized wildfire-spread potential, widespread Critical fire
weather conditions do not currently appear imminent.
