  11. MD 0358 CONCERNING SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY FOR EASTERN MISSISSIPPI...CENTRAL ALABAMA...NORTHWEST GEORGIA Mesoscale Discussion 0358 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0553 PM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024 Areas affected...Eastern Mississippi...Central Alabama...Northwest Georgia Concerning...Severe potential...Tornado Watch likely Valid 022253Z - 030200Z Probability of Watch Issuance...95 percent SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will become more numerous through the evening, with an increasing risk of tornadoes and damaging winds. Watch issuance is expected in the next couple of hours. DISCUSSION...A very warm/moist and moderately unstable and only weakly capped air mass is in place this evening across much of southern MS/AL, with dewpoints in the mid/upper 60s. Recent satellite/radar loops show isolate showers and thunderstorms beginning to develop in this region. Models have been consistent in the development of a strong southerly low-level jet by mid-evening, resulting in northward advection of the better moisture and strengthening low-level wind fields. Forecast soundings suggest rapid enlargement of hodographs after dark, with parameters becoming quite favorable for supercells capable of tornadoes and damaging winds. A tornado watch will be needed for parts of this region in the next couple of hours as more robust convective initiation begins. ..Hart/Guyer.. 04/02/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... 12. MD 0360 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 81... FOR EASTERN OHIO...SOUTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA...AND WESTERN WEST VIRGINIA Mesoscale Discussion 0360 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0742 PM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024 Areas affected...eastern Ohio...southwest Pennsylvania...and western West Virginia Concerning...Tornado Watch 81... Valid 030042Z - 030215Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 81 continues. SUMMARY...There is a continued threat for tornadoes through the evening within tornado watch 81. DISCUSSION...A cluster of storms with embedded supercells extends from east-central Ohio into southern Ohio. Shear ahead of these storms is very favorable with nearly 100% streamwise vorticity in the lowest 1 km at the RLX and PBZ VWP. Instability is the primary limiting factor with dewpoints only in the upper 50s to low 60s and temperatures in the low to mid-60s. However, despite the limited buoyancy, brief tornadoes have been present with several of these storms and a similar threat will continue into the late evening. Shear will increase further as the low-level jet intensifies which will likely maintain the threat into the early overnight hours. ..Bentley.. 04/03/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... 13. MD 0361 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 82... FOR CENTRAL ALABAMA INTO WESTERN GEORGIA Mesoscale Discussion 0361 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0843 PM CDT Tue Apr 02 2024 Areas affected...Central Alabama into western Georgia Concerning...Tornado Watch 82... Valid 030143Z - 030345Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 82 continues. SUMMARY...A cluster of strong thunderstorms over west-central AL may intensify in the next hour or two, posing a risk of a few tornadoes and wind damage. DISCUSSION...A cluster of thunderstorms that formed over southeast MS has now moved into west-central and southwest AL. The air mass ahead of these storms continues to moisten with dewpoints in the mid 60s now as far north as BHM. Meanwhile, an intensifying southerly low-level jet is focusing across southern/central AL as shown by regional VAD data. Recent hodographs from the BMX/MXX/EOX radars show large, looping shear profiles with 0-3km SRH values of 300-400 m2/s2. 00z RAOBs from BMX/FFC showed a deep warm-layer from 0-4km, that has thus far limited updrafts strength. However, model guidance suggests this layer will cool somewhat in the next 1-2 hours, allowing more robust convection. Both the HRRR and recent WoFS runs show the corridor from the current storms eastward to the south of the BHM area toward the western ATL suburbs as having a relatively greater threat in the next few hours for severe storms including a few tornadoes. ..Hart.. 04/03/2024 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
