About this blog

In May 2020 I purchased a 2017 Cadillac ATS-V as my new toy! 🙂 I absolutely love this car! The car only had 11,700 miles on it so it really looked brand new. It appears to have every option that was available in 2017, so lots of bells and whistles that I'm just beginning to explore. Then in October, we purchased a 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan for my wife. 🙂 Can you tell I like these cars?

Most of the fun cars I've previously owned were before the "internet" so documentation and even pictures are pretty sparse. That inspired me to do a better job with this one and the reason why I'm creating this blog. I will have all the details about the car including build options, as well as information on the upcoming modifications, performance data, and lots of pictures and videos.

01/21/23 - Updated a few sections, mostly the mod section. For more updates and changes see the additional blog posts.  Well.... my wife really needed a nicer car as hers was getting old and she has been a Cadillac girl since she had her 2001 Cadillac SLS in Obsession Red. So.... we found one a little newer in the color she likes. 🙂 This is the newest addition to the family... a 2016 ATS-V sedan. 🙂 Yes, another ATS-V.     This one is a little special though. Garage Update - 03/25/22

It's done! The final finishing touches were completed yesterday and other than adding/moving things on the walls, there is nothing left to do. The vanity and sink installation was basically the last item to complete. Glenn came over yesterday and got everything hooked up and working.  You can see the spigot on the left side of the vanity and that's my hot water connection for washing the cars.    The other item that he did, we install the hose reel for the air compressor. Just found out that my garage came in 2nd place out of more than 500 entries in RaceDeck's garage of the year contest!   2021 RaceDeck Garage of the Year Contest Winners Announced - RaceDeck RACEDECK.COM The fourth annual RaceDeck Garage of the Year contest has come to a close and it was nothing short of pandemonium! Garage Update 1/22/22

Still waiting on the paint touch ups but most people wouldn't notice. We managed to get some more pictures on the wall, installed the new blinds on the windows and doors, and I got the new toolbox to replace my old red one. I added a rubber mat to the top of it to protect the finish. Other than the vanity and sink, I think we're just about done.              Next post:

Garage Update - 12/25/21

Finally, the paint is done! They will come back after the first of the year to touch up any areas I might find, but otherwise it's done. I'm extremely happy with the way it turned out.  I'm still waiting on the vanity and sink to arrive and the blinds (they will be black) for the windows have been ordered and should arrive the second week of January. I have found a new toolbox to replace the old red one I have. I needed a small workspace in addition to the storage for tools, and this box fi

Garage Update - 12/20/21

More progress made today and they may be finished painting tomorrow 🤞 The ceiling is done. They need to go back and recut the red in a few places, and there are a few spots of ceiling paint on the wall that they will touch up. The louvered door that covers the refrigerator went back on this morning.  The garage door side is the focus now and they made good progress on that today. The paint wasn't dry when I snapped this picture, but you can see some drier areas on the left door. All of

Garage Update - 12/04/21

They are still working on the garage but things are moving along nicely. They finished up the woodwork today. The trim for the wainscoting is up and the shoe moulding is down on the floor. Other than paint and getting the vanity for the sink, it's just about done. I have pictures and neon and things to go on the walls, so I just need to get some paint in there! In that box on the floor is a new air hose reel that will go inside of the little closet on the right hand wall. I'm going to make a hol

Update - 04/30/21

Washed both cars today so that we can take them to the Big Canoe Car Club meet tomorrow. It's getting there... just a few more items. The guy that did the painting did a great job matching everything up. He painted the bumper cover, hood, and both fenders, and also fixed the pits etc in the front splitter. The new grills are installed and the "V" emblems have been ordered are getting replaced along with the ATS in the rear (black). The car will get a ceramic treatment and the roof and mirro

04/17/21 - Under the Knife

We took the wife's car to Russ Cowart for the front end painting. I stopped by on Friday to get some pictures of the car and take a look at what he's done so far. By looking at these pictures, you'd think the car had been in a wreck. 🙂  For reference, here's before.   And this is now.       It's a three stage paint process, so it's more difficult to get right than a single color paint, and the big reason I took it to Russ. After the pain

Video of the Red Car

The wife was taking the car out yesterday and I wanted to get the exhaust sound. But it's still a phone so it is what it is. It actually sounds pretty good through the music system that's attached to my TV. You may hear a little "clink" sound as she starts up the hill. We think there is something in between the wheel and tire that is moving around. The guy that is doing the paint work is going to look at it.  As she backs out, you can see that the hood is a little scared up and the front end pit

Update - 04/08/21

We got the wife's car back two days ago with the new wheels/tires/springs on it. I drove the car today for the first time and it rode great. The alignment is not what I would have specified, so I'll get it back to the alignment shop in a few weeks. We drop off the car again on Friday to Russ Cowart at  HOME | cowartcustoms WWW.COWARTCUSTOMS.COM to have the front painted and to installed the front grills. They will buff out the rest of the car, and at some point w

Update - 04/01/21

We were suppose to pick up the wife's car today but it won't be ready until tomorrow, so I got out and washed the car instead. 🙂 Yes, it was a little cold but the sun was shining and I had 120 degree water to work with, so not a problem.  I finally got to put my foot in the gas briefly since it was dry outside today, but I wasn't logging the car at the time, but MAN... this thing is making some serious power now. 🙂 I'll get out tomorrow and log it and see how it's doing. I have about 3/4 of

Update - 03/31/21

Picked my car up at noon in the pouring down rain today.  The new Michelin's are now on the car. Since I couldn't get the Falken tires that I wanted, I got the tried and true tire. But this time I went from a 265/30-19 to a 275/30-19 in the front and so far I haven't noticed any rubbing except in a tight parking maneuver which I can live with. There is no more room in the front or rear, so this will have to do except for a stickier tire.   While the car was there, the new st

Update 03/30/21

Dropped of the car at Balanced Performance Motors today. Tomorrow I'll pick it up with new Michelin PS4S tires, new brake pads, new brake lines, and a brake flush. I'll do my best to run it out of gas before I bring it back home as I need to fill it up with E85 so I can finish the tune with Justin.  When I pick my car up, we drop off the wife's car so they can install my tires on her new wheels and install the new Swift springs and hopefully we can have hers back on Thursday. I'm on my

Update - 03/23/21

Well... another setback. I can't get the Falken RT660 tires until June since there is a nationwide backorder. So in the meantime, I've ordered another set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and they will arrive Friday. Of course that means I don't get any work done to the cars this week, so we're now looking at next week before we can get all of the wheel/tire/suspension/brake work done to both cars. I did go ahead and order a 275/30-19 for the front, and that new size will be going on my car to r

Update - 03/18/21

I took my car to Atlanta Motorsports Park last Sunday for my first day at the track with the car, and my first time at that track. It was a blast!  The car did very well, I really could not have been more pleased. You can tell that the engineers spent a lot of time sorting out the cars track capabilities, as there was nothing that it did wrong and nothing unpredictable about the way it drove. I was impressed. The 300 treadwear Michelin PS4S's actually did really well, they had a lot of grip

More Updates 02-13-21

I finally have a plan... 🙂 My car has been at the Cadillac dealer for three weeks now as they tried to figure out what the clunking noise is in the left front of the car, and it appears that the front sway bar migrated to the left and was touching something and making that noise. I've ordered collars to go on the bar that should arrive Tuesday that will keep it centered with the frame, hopefully that will fix the problem.  Next, I have Friday March 5 appointment with Teddy Knisely to instal

Just a few new pictures...

I had some good reflections the other day, so I had to snap some pictures. The ceramic treatment makes the car shine all the time.  https://photos.app.goo.gl/Aab3AvWBF6vzcAqJ6 https://photos.app.goo.gl/drkgtepwvN1LwmnF6   Can't squeeze anymore wheel and tire back there. 🙂   Here's an After/Before. First Autocross

Well... I don't think that turned out too bad for the first time out in three years. I haven't seen the final results yet, but the car felt really good and I wasn't as rusty as I thought I was going to be. 🙂 It was a great day for an autocross with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, but as the day went on the clouds filled in and the winds picked up, and we had a few sprinkles for the last heat but nothing to really slow anyone down. There were only 51 entries so everyone got

New wheels have finally arrived...

Ordered July 1, arrived October 13. Whatever, they finally got here. All 19" with the fronts being 9.5" wide and the rear 11" wide.   I weighed the wheels and this is what I found. The fronts, despite being a 1/2" wider and an inch in diameter greater, weight less than the OEM wheels by 0.7 lbs. The rear wheel, while 1.5" wider and 1 in diameter great, only weigh 0.4 lbs heavier than the OEM rear. It's the new tires that are heavier.  So Thursday morning we'll be at Gr

Suspension

I'm a handling guy, always have been. I love the curvy roads and will go out of my way to take those every chance I get. I started autocrossing cars back in 1973 and have continued off and on for all these years, and the love of driving has only increased as I've gotten older. And it's not just turns, I also want a car that can stop much faster than it can accelerate. This one does it all. In the stock form, this car will pull a steady 1.03 g's on a skidpad, and many people have never even
