Good morning! Today should be a fairly nice day with some high clouds around, but Sunday is the start of the heat ridge that will keep us in its grasp almost all week long. That ridge will bring a lot of 90 degree temperatures and some heat indexes in the triple digits across most of Georgia. Here in the mountains, we may not see the full brunt of the heat, but it's still going to be hot. Overall the rainfall will be rather sparse next week but we will still have chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms almost every day, especially toward the end of the period. Yes, I've said it before but I'll say it again, this is the p…

Good morning! The rain has left us with cooler and drier air this morning, and with the breeze, it feels great outside. Don't let the cool air fool you though, we have more rain coming later tonight before clearing out again on Saturday. There is a system to our west over Oklahoma/Arkansas that will be moving out way and will make it to our area during the overnight hours. We are expected to still have a lot of drier air at the surface so we might not see a lot of precipitation as it passes by. The heat is coming so get ready. The warming starts on Sunday and continues through the work week and into next weekend. It's probable that all of north Georgia wi…

Good morning! The showers are almost over for most of north Georgia, but there are still a few stragglers around. Everything will be clearing out as drier air moves in from the north, and today will actually be a very nice day. I had about 0.72" of rain over the last 24 hours, so we're not doing too bad for rainfall right now. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we're going to experience some really hot weather starting on Tuesday of next week, so get ready. As we get closer to the start of the heat, the rain will start to taper off so we're also going to begin to dry out. We could see high temperatures in the mid 90's across north Georgia, and heat indexe…

Good morning! I think most people had some showers yesterday, and today may bring an even greater chance for rain. We have several systems that may impact our weather today with one currently over Alabama while the second system is further back to our west. I believe the first system will clear out quick enough to allow destabilization to take place this afternoon, and some of the storms this afternoon and evening may become strong to severe. The western side of Georgia is in a "Slight Risk" outline for those thunderstorms and the greatest severe weather threat will be high winds, but a few storms with hail can't be ruled out. The Storm Predicti…

Good morning! We're going to have a very messy period in store for this week, as multiple waves of moisture impact our area through next weekend, although not every day will see rain. It now looks like today and Wednesday will hold the greatest chance for rain, Thursday may be relatively dry but an area of enhanced moisture returns late Friday, and Saturday looks to be pretty wet. If all goes as planned at the moment, Sunday looks to be dry. We already have some showers and thunderstorms entering the state at this early hour, and more will be on the way later today. You can see the second round back over Oklahoma. Rainfa…

Good morning! Summer weather. Nothing else to really say. We are getting a flow of moisture off of the Atlantic this morning, and that is bringing in some clouds across the area. Rain chances today are partially dependent on a Mesoscale Convective System that is over MO/AR right now, and that system will be moving toward the southeast today. The rest of the week will bring a chance for showers each day, and Wednesday and Thursday will be the heaviest rain days of the work week. We dry out a little on Friday before a good chance for rain returns Saturday. Of course! 🙂 At least Sunday is looking dry at the moment, so hopefully the entire weekend won't be l…

Good morning! Today and tomorrow will be the last rain free days for a while, so try to get out and take advantage of it. The rain chances start to return on Tuesday and the rest of the week will have our typical afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. We may see more concentrated rain by Thursday/Friday, but the models disagree at the moment, so we'll wait and see how everything plays out. Tropical Storm Alex is out over the Atlantic and is only a threat to Bermuda and the fish. As discussed above, these were the differences in the 500 mb pattern between the two models. The 00Z Euro brings the trough over the southeast while the 0…

Good morning! Summer has arrived and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. The weekend is going to be nice and rain free, so time to get out and execute all of those outdoor plans! We don't have much longer to talk about PTC 1, as it will be moving across southern Florida later today, leaving 10"+ rainfall totals in its wake. These are radar estimated rainfall totals from the Miami radar. And radar estimated totals from the Key West radar. One thing for sure, it's going to be hot. Rainfall amounts will be light to non-existent this weekend, but the afternoon and evening showers and thunders…

Good morning! It looks like most everyone had some rain yesterday, so that will help to keep the drought conditions at bay for a while. Still no weather to ramble on about across north Georgia as we're stuck in a summertime pattern of afternoon and evening rain. We'll dry out for the weekend, but those showers return on Monday and will continue through the remainder of the week. "Potential Tropical Cyclone One" is slowly moving to the northeast this morning and will eventually cross the peninsula of Florida later this weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are already covering south Florida, and that will continue for the next several days. Not a good time to be at …

Good morning! Running late this morning, I thought I'd get out and wash a car before it got to hot. 🙂 No weather of concern to report today, just our typical summertime weather. The tropical system in the Gulf will be tracking across central to southern Florida this weekend, but it should not get out of the tropical depression category until after it passes over Florida. So that means breezy conditions for the lower half of Florida with numerous showers and thunderstorms. So for us here, it's simply hot. We will have a pretty good chance for some showers later today, but only a slight chance for Friday, and Saturday should be dry. The pattern doesn't really chan…

Good morning! Today is the meteorological start to summer and also the start of the 2022 hurricane season! No hurricanes for us today, just sunny skies and hot temperatures. Our rain chances return on Thursday and continue for the next 5-7 days. We won't see any impacts from the tropical system that will impact Florida, so we'll remain in a typical summertime pattern for a while. The red colors indicate dry air, and that's why our rain chances will be lower today. The two yellow circles are the areas the National Hurricane Center is watching for possible development. Both systems will be moving toward the northeast and will not impact our area. …

Good morning! We are in the last day of May and that means two things. Meteorological Summer starts tomorrow as well as June 1 being the official start to the hurricane season. It's looking to be a very active season and we already have Tropical Storm Agatha making landfall on the coast of Mexico near Salina Cruz over on the Pacific side. For us here, nothing but nice weather. Those showers that came through last night were the result of outflow boundaries from the thunderstorms that were created by the sea breeze from the Atlantic, and all of that pushed much further north than anticipated. Today and tomorrow will be warm, but we'll cool back down to more…

Good morning! My post yesterday said Saturday May 28, so I was only a day off. LOL! We've been down here in Suwanee with the new grand baby and I've lost track of time and the days of the week. 🙂 The is no real weather to speak of this week, but the afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms return on Thursday and will continue through the weekend as the southeast sees an increase in moisture from the Gulf. We're starting to see signs of tropical activity, and we may see the development of a system that may track over Florida next weekend, and there is a chance that it might develop into a tropical storm before moving out into the Atlantic, so we'll b…

Good morning! I started a post yesterday morning but grand baby things got in the way. 🙂 Luckily, there is nothing to say about the weather except that we'll have sunny skies and hot temperatures through most of the work week, so this post will be short today. Emma says Hi!! We'll get a week to dry out from the inches of rain that we just had. This is the rainfall forecast through next Sunday and many people won't see any rain. Our high temperatures start off mild but increase over time, before dropping back down to normal levels later in the week. The high temp anomalies correspond to this. …

Good morning! Once again the severe weather passed us by, and we can thank the cloud cover for making that happen. We'll have one more slight chance for a shower this morning as a little line is passing through Alabama, but it won't amount to much at all (and probably nothing for most people). After that passes, we're dry through Wednesday! Temperatures will be warming up once the rain and clouds clear and the Memorial Day weekend is going to be beautiful! This is the satellite image as of 7:51 AM this morning. So we go back to no weather to talk about! 🙂 Our high temperatures through next Thursday will look like this. We are defin…

Good morning! Baby Emma arrived at 4:01 PM yesterday, 7 lbs 1 oz, and mom and Emma are going great! I'll have pictures after the mom shares a few first. 🙂 There are numerous showers and thunderstorms this morning across the southeast, and those will most likely increase as the day progresses. This afternoon we may see some strong to severe thunderstorms in advance of the cold front, and the Storm Prediction Center has us outlined in a "Slight" risk area for severe weather. I'm not convinced that we'll see anything other than some strong thunderstorms across north Georgia, but that will depend on the extent of the cloud cover and how long is stays in place. …

Good morning! I'll keep this short this morning as we have our first grandbaby on the way today! Mom is already at the hospital so we're just waiting! We've got a high to the east and a low to the west, and those are funneling in the moisture across the eastern part of the US. As those slide east, our rain will become more widespread, particularly tonight and into tomorrow. We only have a "Marginal" chance for excessive rainfall today, but those chances go back up on Thursday. Wednesday Thursday The rain will end on Friday, but between now and then, we're likely to see 2-4 inches of rain. …

Good morning! We finally got the rain we've been needing, and we have more to come. Some of us are starting off sunny while others are locked in the fog this morning. The rain will return later today, but it's looking like Wednesday and Thursday will be the days with the heavier rain. The moisture hasn't left us and those precipitable water values will increase as the day progresses. It looks like most everyone received anywhere from 1" up to almost 3" in the northeast corner of the state. I ended up with 1.98" of much needed rain, so things are looking up! We remain in a deep moisture field across the southeast, and that isn't…

Good morning! Here come 'da rain! 🙂 Finally! The big push of moisture yesterday shoved the rain up into Tennessee and North Carolina last night and left most of us high and dry. I really don't like forecasting summertime weather. Pop up thunderstorms are notoriously difficult to pinpoint as to when and where they might form. When there is no real forcing in the atmosphere, it's difficult to know where one might popup. It's kind of like "Wack-a-Mole". They will often form along washed out frontal boundaries (like last night), or old outflow boundaries from showers and thunderstorms. Today will be easier to forecast. There is an actual low that will inte…

Good morning! We're starting off the morning under cloudy skies, and those skies will be bringing rain to our area later this morning and especially later this afternoon. We are seeing a large area of showers stretching from Texas to middle Tennessee, and that entire complex will be moving our way today. The upcoming week is going to be pretty wet, but as you know, we need the rain so I'm not going to complain. We're going to have copious amounts of Gulf moisture across Georgia this week, and showers and thunderstorms can break out at anytime in this soupy air mass. Our rainfall amounts will be in the 2-4" range through next Sunday according to …

Good morning! We're starting the morning off with low clouds and warm temperatures as deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico saturates the area. This moisture is the start of a period that will bring daily showers and thunderstorms to the north Georgia area, and this rainy period will continue through the end of next week. This will be much needed rainfall for all of Georgia, particularly those areas that are already in drought conditions. The rain and clouds will also moderate our temperatures, and our highs next week will drop back down to the mid 70's, so a very welcomed relief from the mid to upper 80's that many people have been experiencing. …

Good morning! Yes... I'm running late this morning. I was up a 2 AM if that makes a difference! 🙂 We are now getting a much deeper push of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, and that is setting the stage for a wet weekend and even wetter work week. Today will be hot and dry, but the added moisture is going to make it feel like it's 90 degrees out there. Beginning Saturday we're going to start putting all of that moisture to good use as a weak wave passes across the southeast, triggering numerous showers and thunderstorms across north Georgia. and Saturday is only the beginning. The rain will continue through most, if not all of next week, dropping at a mini…

Good morning! We are looking at the warmest day of the year today, so get ready for some heat! That heat, combined with an approaching mid level shortwave, will trigger some showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening, and it's possible that one or two of those may become strong to severe. Nothing to be too concerned about other than to be aware, especially if you have outdoor plans. You can see one shortwave exiting right while the next one approaches from the west. These are the forecast highs through next Wednesday. The square boxes are stations that may tie or set a high high temp record. Rainfall totals from…

Good morning! Man, this month just seems to be flying by! We are still in a summertime weather pattern, and we'll continue like this for the foreseeable future. We will have some showers and a few thunderstorms this weekend, and our temperatures will drop back down to more seasonable levels by Sunday. We may be lucky enough to get as much as 1-2" of rain starting late Saturday and into the first of next week, and that rain will surely be a welcomed sight across Georgia. We find out tomorrow how the drought situation looks compared to the week before, but I'm sure the area of dry to moderate drought conditions has expanded. This was what it looked like last week. I wo…

Good morning! Since we don't really have any weather going on, you probably didn't miss me making a post yesterday! I left early yesterday to go down to Atlanta Motor Speedway for a Sports Car Club of America autocross event. My last year of competitively driving was in 2017, so I had lots of rust to shake off. 🙂 If you'd like to see one of my runs, this is one of them. The car was way down on power yesterday, but it was handling great so at least that was a plus. I had no power exiting turns and no top end on the straight sections. I ended up with the 2nd fastest time, but it should be about 3 seconds faster. We will have a chance for some th…
