Good morning! We obviously had zero rain with the cold front yesterday, so that was a big bust, and we're most likely not going to see any rain until Saturday, so go ahead and plan for a dry hot week. Our temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80's across the north and 90's further south. We are starting to get pretty dry and we need to see some rain sooner than later. I wouldn't be surprised to see the drought area creeping further north toward north Georgia when the report is issued on Thursday. On the morning map today I'm displaying dew points instead of temperatures, and you can see the drier dewpoints north of the magenta line. The front that came th…

Good morning! You might be waking up to some fog this morning, especially if you had some rain yesterday. Today will be similar with those hit or miss chances for rain. We have a total Lunar Eclipse coming Sunday night, and here's a little information about it. In the link below this image, you can watch an animation of the eclipse as it will appear here in Big Canoe. The weather between 9 PM and 2 AM should be precip free, but we'll still have around 35% cloud cover. Good morning! Normal summertime weather is expected through next week, so nothing to sound any alarms for us. We will be slightly below normal for highs today, thanks to the clouds that will be around, but we'll warm back up tomorrow, and that warm up will continue through the end of next week. Rainfall amounts will be meager so don't expect much relief from the dry weather. South Georgia is already under a "Moderate Drought" and could really use some rain right now. They will see a few showers from this meandering low, but not enough to provide much relief. You can see the broad area of low pressure over Georgia and South Carolina, and that will c…

Good morning! I'm headed out on the "pontoon" today so Mother Nature will probably come up with a freak storm out of nowhere just to mess with me. 🙂 As it stands, we won't see any rain until late tomorrow, and "if" you see any then it should be light. Just consider this summertime weather and continue on with your plans. Those strong NW winds that we're seeing every morning are due to the upper level low to our east, and that is forcing winds down the east side of the mountains. That low is starting to open up and drift west, and as that happens our winds will calm down. Rainfall through 8 PM Sunday. Meh... We're going to …

Good morning! Still nothing to talk about as far as our weather goes, so this will be a very short post today. In the discussion they mention the cutoff lows and a rex block. I think it is actually more of an omega block, and this is what an omega block looks like. It is a fairly static pattern with lows and stormy weather on either side of an area of high pressure and calm weather. In this kind of pattern, nothing is moving very quickly, so these can sometimes linger for days. This one will break down beginning Friday. Rainfall is meager through next Wednesday. And our temperatures will be on the warm side. …

Good morning! We are starting off a little warmer this morning even though we've had clear skies overnight. The winds have remained a little elevated and that is working to keep our temps a little higher than yesterday. Once the sun rises, the relatively dry air will warm quickly and by the afternoon we will be looking at highs in the mid 70's. These are dew point temps, not surface temperatures. You can see from those 40-50 degree dew points that we still have lots of dry air over Georgia. That pesky upper level low out in the Atlantic is pulling in drier air from the northeast, and that pressure gradient is keeping our winds elevated as well. The winds should …

Good morning! This AFD from this morning is one of the shortest I've seen in a long time, and tells me nothing is going on with the weather for us to be concerned about. The extended part of the discussion was a little longer but even that is much ado about nothing. 🙂Summertime weather with no rain until Friday night. We're surrounded by a lot of dry air so there is no precipitation anywhere around us despite the high clouds that are currently in place. We won't see any rainfall between today and early Friday evening. Add Friday evening through Sunday to the image above and you get this. There will be some rain this upcomi…

Good morning! I'm going to keep this very short today as sunny skies and warm temps don't require any explanation. 🙂 We will remain on the cool side for one more day, as a wedge is trying to push southwest out of North Carolina, and that's bringing clouds and breezy winds to north Georgia and more so on the northeast side of the area. As the low drops south and east, the counterclockwise rotation will force air into the mountains, and since it can't go over, it turns south and rides down the east side of the Appalachians. Once that low pushes far enough east and south, we will clear and warm up. Zooming in, we see those surface winds out of the…

Good morning! It's a little brisk outside this morning! We still have a few showers rotating around from the upper level low, but they won't amount to anything, but it's going to remain pretty cloudy today due to the low. Those clouds will help to keep our high temperatures in the 60's today, with gusty northwest winds making it feel even cooler at times. Our temperatures will rise into the 70's on Sunday and Monday, and then jump on up into the 80's for the rest of the week. We have have a chance for some showers Friday, but that's pretty far away at the moment, so let's enjoy what we currently have before we start looking that far ahead! …

Good morning! It's looking like we may have some severe weather today, but if you look at the map, there is none around at the moment. Honestly, with all the clouds in place, we're not going to get any heating from the sun, and without it, I don't see an "Enhanced" risk happening here. Showers are starting to build to our west and south but none of those are severe. To find any of those we have to look near the Gulf coast where we only see three Severe Thunderstorm Warnings at 6:30 AM. In order to see any severe here, it's really going to have to ramp up quickly and I just don't see that happening. This image show…

Good morning! All eyes are on Friday when the southeast will have a chance for some severe weather in advance of a cold front. This will not be a major severe weather outbreak, but we will have a fairly good chance for strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. We have our typical "gotchas" that may act to limit the severe chances across the north, but we won't really know how those might play out until the day of. Today will be nice and dry, with only a very small chance for a shower or thunderstorm late in the day, and our temperatures will be very warm with highs in the 80's. The morning map shows moisture creeping back into our area (this is a…

Good morning! It looks like a few people had some overnight rain, and some of those storms are still ongoing as we start the day. I watched lightning out my window while I was laying in bed, and it was pretty constant during the early morning hours. We'll have more of the same later today and tonight, we'll dry out a little on Thursday, but the rain returns for Friday and Saturday and those should be the wettest days of the period. This infrared view shows the moisture (the yellow and blue colors) pushing east this morning along with the showers and thunderstorms. Behind that we dry out some before the rain chance increase once again this evening. Today should…

Good morning! More hit or miss (mostly miss) afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast, so don't expect a lot of changes over the next 4-5 days. Many of us missed out on the rain again last night, so let's try again today and see if we can work something up! Keep in mind that predicting summer thunderstorms is a shot in the dark. They can pop up anywhere and it's very difficult to determine when and where that might happen. We had a few nice ones last night and if you managed to be in the path of one of those, you had a nice dousing of rain. I would expect to see a little better coverage this evening compared to yesterday. Dew points ar…

Good morning! Well... yesterday was a big bust for rain. I got outside early yesterday to wash the wife's car as I had about two hours before the rain was supposed to arrive. Two hours later I had a handful of rain drops and that was it for the day. So sorry if you held off on some outdoor plans, it turned out to be a great day once the clouds burned off. These are/were the temperatures around 8:30 or so across the southeast. That area of rain to the west has a little bit of an eastward movement, but the rain is moving to the north and northeast. Looking at dew points, you can easily see the drier airmass to our north over Tennessee. The bounda…

Good morning! We have a small line of showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this morning, and that line will be slowly pushing east today. I suspect that as we get a little more heating during the day, the showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity, but we are not expecting any severe weather. This will be the opening shot of rain and thunderstorms and the rain will continue off and on all week long with primarily afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall through next Sunday won't be too excessive but we'll take whatever we can get. I don't like going into summer with a deficit. Dry weather begets dry we…

Good morning! Well, we've made to the end of the month with no severe weather across north Georgia. A few folks in the NW corner of the state saw a few strong thunderstorms, but for the most part we were all spared. And there is still no severe weather in our immediate or extended forecast, so we're going to cruise right on into summertime weather pattern. Once we get past Sunday, we will have the regular afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms through at least Friday and maybe even longer. The days will be nice and warm with highs in the 80's, so it's going to feel awesome even with showers around. So far we've been below normal for the month, but…

Good morning! Today and tomorrow will be the last dry days for a little while, so get outside and enjoy them! Sunday looks to be pretty wet, but after that we fall into a pattern that is more typical of summer with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. Our temperatures will continue to warm into the 80's and that's where we'll stay through next Thursday. Summer has arrived! Instead of a morning map, I thought I'd share a short time lapse video of this morning's sunrise. We shouldn't see any rain until Sunday, but that will be the day with the heaviest rainfall. After that it's mainly afternoon and evening showers and t…

Good morning! Nothing to talk about today, so we'll keep this short. 🙂 Rainfall through next Thursday will be relatively light. This loop starts at 2 PM Saturday. Our high temps will be very nice. I don't think we'll see any rain on Friday but it will begin to make an appearance on Saturday. After that, we'll have a chance for rain each day through at least Wednesday, and those will primarily be afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. . Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

Good morning! We are starting off chilly this morning but that chill won't last for long as the late April sunshine will warm things up quickly today. By Friday it's going to seem an awful lot like summer as we start to see increasing chances for afternoon and evening thundershowers across north Georgia. There is no severe weather in the forecast, just the ordinary popup variety thundershowers that we see across Georgia during the summer months, so no concerns. While we will see the chances for rain returning to our area, we will remain above normal for our temperatures. Today is the anniversary of the largest, costliest, and one of the deadliest tornado…

Good morning! It looks like the rain has been delayed just a little bit, but it's coming. Maybe. Everyone should see a little bit of rain, but it won't be much and at the moment, there are certainly no thunderstorms. Later today some people will see a few thunderstorms pop up with this system, but that will happen to the south and east from us. Otherwise, nothing to talk about once again. We'll gradually warm up after today, and showers and some garden variety thunderstorms return for the weekend and the start of next week. One again, nothing to really talk about. Pretty nice weather is in store for us once these mo…

Good morning! We're waking up to a chilly spring morning across north Georgia today, and we'll have one more morning like this before we warm right up to summertime temperatures. Our weather is only going to get better as we go through the week, and by Friday almost everyone will be looking at high temperatures in the 80's with no rain. There aren't too many warm areas across the US this morning, a small patch of 70's on the border of California and Arizona, one at the southern tip of Texas, and south Florida. It looks like Key West is the warmest location right now. Our temperature here in Big Canoe have stayed above freezing, but a few stat…

Good morning! Another slow weather day with mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures. By this evening we will start to see a few showers entering the picture, but our greatest chance will come around sunrise tomorrow morning, and even that isn't much to talk about. That rain will continue pushing south and east, and by noon tomorrow it will be gone. We won't see much rain with this system, so it's probably going to leave a lot of pollen behind instead of washing it away. These are the forecast rainfall amounts through 2 PM Tuesday. We'll be nice and warm today, but we cool down for tomorrow. That coolness doesn't last long and…

Good morning! We are in the midst of some beautiful weather right now, and it will continue right on through tomorrow. We will have some rain chances creeping back into the forecast beginning Monday night and those chances peak on Tuesday in advance of a cold front. By Wednesday that front will have pushed across the area bringing slightly cooler and more seasonable temperatures for a few days, but the cold doesn't hang around for long and warmer weather returns to close out the week. High pressure is in charge of our weather through tomorrow but that will slowly start moving east and out into the Atlantic. An upper level trough is spinning some colder air into …

Good morning! As I started typing the sun came up, so I had to grab a picture. 🙂 Another very short post today. As you can see from the picture, not a cloud in sight this morning. Forecast high temperatures through Friday. Rainfall amounts for Monday/Tuesday. Very scattered and very light, and many won't get any measurable rain at all. Just get out and enjoy the weather.... 🌞🌳🌷 Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

Good morning! I will keep this REAL short today since beautiful springs days don't require a lot of "splaining". 🙂 High pressure is parked over the southeast and that high is going to bring us sunny skies and very warm temps today and through the weekend. This is probably the only image you need to see. These are high temps through next Thursday. You notice we cool down a little for Tuesday and Wednesday, but the cool down doesn't last long. One more cool down coming next week, but pretty nice weather otherwise. EVen though we'll have some showers on Monday, it is going to be a warm day. Hope everyone has a great Friday…
