Good morning! Sunny, but breezy and cool weather conditions will be our weather story though Sunday. Monday, the winds calm down but we will remain on the cool side of things until Tuesday when we climb back up to the 70's. All of those tightly bunched isobars indicates strong winds at all levels of the atmosphere, and those winds will mix down to the surface today and tomorrow, and that's the reason for today's Wind Advisory. Today, the counties with the higher elevations are under a wind advisory. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for dangerous burning conditions. Today is NOT the day to burn. Today and …

Good morning! Another nice but cool day is in store for today, and we will have more gusty winds to go along with it. We had a fairly stiff northwest winds yesterday and that will continue today as the base of the upper level trough approaches our area, and that means that the winds to be elevated again today. We may also see some high clouds today as little impulses travel through the NW flow. Low humidities and high winds make for a bad combination when it comes to outdoor fires, and today will be no exception. Winds will be an issue today and again on Saturday as the northwest winds continue across north Georgia. The wind gusts may r…

Good morning! This is going to be short and sweet today. 🙂 There is no active weather to talk about until the middle of next week. We'll remain on the cool side of things through Monday before we start a warming trend on Tuesday. The front has finally pushed through north Georgia and taken the rain along with it, leaving us with sunny skies. A trough will swing by to our north today and bring us some breezy winds in the process. Expect sunny to mostly sunny skies through Monday with slightly below normal temperatures. No rain through next Wednesday morning. The warm up has been delayed for a day. Yesterday it looked like Monday …

Good morning! As suspected, we were just too cool and the dew points were too low for severe weather. I'll take rain over severe weather any day. We may start to clear up a little later today, and beginning tomorrow well have 6-7 days of nice weather. We will cool down a little tomorrow with highs in the 50's through Sunday. The rain is pushing out as the drier air is starting to filter in. Sooooo.... nothing to talk about once again. Nice weather through Tuesday means almost 7 days with little to talk about. We are going to cool down behind the cold front, and we'll stay that way through Sunday, but a warm up is on the way and it's re…

Good morning! We're watching an area of severe weather that is currently located over Texas and Louisiana, and that area will slowly be making its way east today. We may see some rain and thunderstorms later this evening, but our greatest chance for precipitation will come after the midnight hour tonight, but today should actually be very nice warm day. Storm Prediction Center's Day 2 Severe Weather Outlook Most of north Georgia only has about a 2% chance of seeing a tornado. High wind chances are much greater. Most of Day 2's severe weather should occur south and east of I-85, but …

Good morning! Nothing to talk about this morning, so it will be real short. Hopefully my internet will be fixed today. It looks like our severe weather threat is diminishing somewhat, so that is good news. Today and tomorrow should be beautiful days, but Tuesday will have more clouds due to the advancing showers and thunderstorms. The system that will be bringing the severe weather threat to the southeast is circled in yellow. Storm Prediction Center Looking at the short range high resolution NAM 3km this morning, I don't don't see anything that looks like severe weather over north Georgia, but there will be a lot of she…

Good morning! I'll keep this short today, I'm still without internet and I'm tethered through my phone so I can make this post. Lightning hit very close to the house yesterday and tripped about 5-6 breakers in the house, took out the internet, damaged some light switches, and bruised my wife's leg. We were sitting out on the EZ Breeze listening to the rain when a bolt of lightning went over our heads and down into the woods below us. My wife's leg was touching the leg of a wicker chair, and when the lightning hit, there was enough of a spark to shock her and leave a mark on her leg. They can't get out here to look at the internet until Monday, but everythi…

Good morning! Still tethered through my phone so I'll have to minimize my uploads today. In order to watch TV, I have to tether to my phone's hotspot from my laptop, and then extend the screen to the TV through a HDMI cable. Yes, it's rigged but it works. 🙂 Today at ~11:34 AM Astronomical Spring begins! Still watching the Tuesday/Wednesday timeframe for the severe weather potential, and the SPC has now issued a "Moderate" Risk outlook for portions of Mississippi and Louisiana for Tuesday, and things could get pretty rough in that area. Right now, it appears that the bulk of the severe weather will remain well to our south but…

Good morning! We start off the day with a Tornado Watch to our southwest, and that line of storms will be making its way east as the day progresses, and that will bring us a chance for some severe weather later this evening. The Tornado Warned area has a trajectory that looks like this, and that's why west central Georgia has the greatest chance of seeing severe weather, and the maps and discussions below touch on that. Here is the Day 1 Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center. The "Enhanced" Rish area just touches the Georgia border. There is a 2-5% chance for a tornado with 25 miles of any gi…

Good morning! Not a lot to talk about this morning so I'll keep it brief. The fog is already beginning to burn off as the sun gets higher in the sky, and I should have a great time lapse video of the sunrise and fog shortly. Today will be a beautiful day with sunny skies and warm temperatures, but the rain returns to mess up your Friday, so prepare accordingly. That rain should be moving out by Saturday morning leaving most of the day under sunny skies. Sunday and Monday will bring clear skies and warming temperatures but we head downhill when the rain returns for Tuesday and Wednesday. The precipitation totals from tomorrow's rain look like this. …

Good morning! The vertically stacked low is pretty much spinning in place, and that means it will continue to pump moisture and rain our way through tomorrow. The heavier overnight rain is moving away after dropping 1-2" of rain across the north Georgia area. Nothing of very much significance is in store for the 5 days or so. In this precipitable water loop, you can see waves of moisture followed by much drier air. The ups and downs of spring. Rainfall for the next 7 days shows north Georgia in a rainfall hole relatively speaking. While we'll have some rain it won't be nearly as much as folks to our east and west. …

Good morning! Nothing too important to take about this morning. As you have already seen, the clouds have returned and the rain will follow later this afternoon. There will be a chance for rain just about every day this week, but we should clear out and cool down for the weekend. You can see the upper level low in the water vapor image. It is actually a vertically stacked 850/700/500 mb low. Over the course of the next 7 days, the heaviest rain will fall over central and south Georgia where they could really use a little. I have added a new device at my house, and expecting one more in a few days. I installe…

Good morning! It was 20 degrees here at the house yesterday at this time (8:30 AM), but I'm sitting at 39 degrees this morning, so the cold air is leaving the area and a much milder week is ahead. Notice that the deep cold that was in place the last couple of days has pretty much vanished. Our pollen count was up some today, and it will continue to rise for the next 4 weeks. The bulk of our pollen season is between mid-March to mid-April, and you can see from this table how the pollen counts will really start ramping up shortly. Of course it's partially weather dependent so we'll see how that changes things. As you can s…

Good morning! We're starting off the day with some very cold temperatures, but those are already beginning to moderate under clear March sunshine. The sun angle is getting higher in the sky, and that means the cold air doesn't stay around as long as it might in the winter, and today will be no exception to that. Most of north Georgia will reach the 50's for high temps today and by Thursday we may be looking at highs in the 70's. Of course warmer temps will bring some chances for rain, and it's looking like those rain chances will start to return to our area on Tuesday, and most likely continue off and on for the rest of the week. Our high te…

Well, how'd everyone do? It's still snowing here at the house. 🙂 I'll keep this short today since my snow is still falling. 🙂 I had about 0.25" of snow, q 36 mph wind gust, and I'm down to 26 degrees right now. These are the temps in Big Canoe at 10 AM We'll have more bands of snow coming through and much of it isn't showing up on radar. There was a 40 degree temperature drop in the Smokies since yesterday

Good morning! A busy weather day is in store for today and tomorrow, so we'll go ahead and jump in with both feet. We are now under a Winter Weather Advisory for most of north Georgia for 1-2" of snow. We are also under a Wind Advisory for Saturday also. Something is telling that this is going to be a bigger deal than some people think. The snow amounts have been slowly creeping up so we need to pay attention to the latest model runs for additional information. These are the deterministic models. Again, the ensembles back them up. Probabilities of >=1" of snow.…

Good morning! We start the morning cloudy, dreary, and cool as a wedge tries to build in from the east. We should remain fairly dry today but the rain returns on Friday ahead of an advancing cold front, and we may see a little wrap around snow on the backside of the cold front. One thing that is for sure is the cold air. The models are showing low temps that look like this on Sunday morning. This is the official forecast lows for Sunday morning. We also know the winds will be pretty strong. These are potential wind gust. I would reduce these by about 10 mph. These are 10 meter wind speeds. …

Good morning! Most of the rain has moved to our south so we should dry out a little bit today. We'll only have slight chances for rain between now and Friday, but those chances ramp up quickly Friday night, and by Saturday morning we'll be headed toward the deep freeze. There is still a Tornado Watch over south Georgia, but drier air is pushing in to the north part of the state. These temperatures on the morning map are dewpoints. We will be on the trailing edge of the snow, assuming the low tracks at the speed the models are showing, slower movement would bring slightly higher snow totals. Obviously not everyone will see snow, but the top …

Good morning! Feels a little different this morning, eh? 🙂 The warm air has been pushed to south and central Georgia this morning, so don't expect to warm up too much today. The rain will return later this afternoon and evening, so part of the day will be dry but cloudy. More changes on the way and we now have snow in the forecast for Friday night/Saturday morning. 🙂 Yes. They started it early due to this. These may be our lows come Sunday morning. But of course, snow is actually in the forecast. 🙂 And you were enjoying the warm weather. I have three pairs of images, each pair is the…

Good morning! We're going to have a busy weather week this week, and we'll start Monday off with the potential for severe weather. I personally don't think this will be anything to worry about. I see the storms diminishing in strength as they enter Georgia, so I'm not expecting any dangerous weather. That doesn't mean we won't have any thunderstorms, and some of those could be strong, but the chances are 5% or less for a tornado and it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't see any in Georgia. There are Tornado Watches in effect to our west, but the bulk of the dynamics will shift north toward the Ohio Valley and away from Georgia. S…

Good morning! A nice warm day is in store for all of north Georgia today, although we'll have our share of clouds around for much of the morning like we did yesterday. Monday will be another warm day but the afternoon will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms. There is a possibility that a few of those storms may be severe, and I have more about that below. We're starting to see those springtime clashes of cold and warm air and those two air masses are evident in the temperatures on the morning map. Information from the Storm Prediction Center As mentioned in the AFD, the greatest threat for severe weather…

Good morning! We're starting off the morning with cloudy skies, but I think that as we go through the day, we'll see more and more sun. We are starting to see a return of moisture as our mid level flow starts to come from the Gulf and Atlantic and that should put an end to the wedge. My surface wind here at the house is still out of the east, but I expect to see that change to the southeast and south toward the afternoon. The rain will start on Monday and these are the totals through Tuesday around noon. Not a lot of rain. But if we carry that out through next Saturday, those totals look like this. A lot of rain. 🙂 …

Good morning! Another beautiful day across north Georgia with warm temps and sunny skies. Tomorrow will see some cooler temperatures but still mild with sunny skies. The weekend weather will be great for getting outside, so go ahead and make those plans! Notice all of that cold air up north? It's gotta go somewhere... 😉 So there is still nothing in our immediate future to talk about at the moment. I do want to warn you to not get use to this really nice warm weather. Starting Tuesday, we may drop well below normal if the Euro is correct. Right now we're watching for the potential for severe weather but so far it's looking like general…

Good morning! It's only appropriate that our 2nd day of spring will bring highs near the 70 degree mark today. 🙂 I will keep this REAL short today. There is another 20 degree difference between the upper and lower elevation this morning, and once again the upper elevations are warmer. A house down below me (that I'm sure I can see right now) is 44 degrees and I'm 54 degrees. Nothing going on right now with the weather, no cold, no rain, no thunderstorms, nothing but clear skies and warm temps. However, we are approaching the severe weather season and as you can see from this chart, March and April are the months that see the grea…
